His Sanctuary Baptist Church

History of Baptist Heritage

Rev. John L. Davis (second from the left) and deacons from the church.

In 1995, Rev. Clarence Landry went to a Full Gospel Baptist Revival at Greater St. Steven Full Gospel Baptist Church (Uptown location) in New Orleans with one of his co-workers. That night at the revival a guest minister named Rev. Dr. T. Rajendra Prasad, pastor of His Sanctuary Ministries of India of Secunderabad, India preached and after had an altar call asking for financial support for local pastors of Secunderabad. The Holy Spirit immediately spoke to me and after the worship service I went to Rev. Dr. Prasad and said I would financially support him and the pastors of his community. Ultimately, he supported over twenty pastors and Rev. Dr. Prasad and organized His Sanctuary Ministries USA International Inc. for international missions.

After the first year (1996), his ministry was developing a new community church in the Ninth Ward called His Sanctuary Ministries USA International, Inc. After starting seminaryat New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1999, the First Baptist Church of Kenner, under the leadership of Dr. Joe McKeever, decided to sponsor His Sanctuary Ministries USA International, Inc. as an African-American church plant in the Ninth Ward. We had worship service in New Orleans East and the Lower Ninth Ward. As pastor of His Sanctuary Ministries, Rev. Landry was also chaplain at the social detoxification center and homeless shelter on a volunteer basis where most of the residents would attend church worship service on Sundays. Presently, since moving from New Orleans, the Lord has laid it on our hearts to plant His Sanctuary Ministries in East Harris County, Highlands, Barret Station and McNair, Texas. The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, the San Jacinto Baptist Association and Northside Baptist Church are the sponsoring churches and partners for His Sanctuary Baptist Church.
